Playing in an event

Got a code? Join with it, find your name and keep score

Got a code? Where to type it

Your organizer gives you a code: on the sign at the registration table, in an email or in a text. Codes are 6 digits, and you don't need an account to join with one.

  • In any browser: go to golfsync.io/play and type it. Scanning the QR code on the sign takes you there too.
  • Signed in on the website: the dashboard's Playing today? Join with a code box, or Have an event code? on My Tournaments.
  • In the Golf Sync app: Playing today? Join with a code at the bottom of the Sign In screen and on the home screen, or Playing in a tournament today? at the top of the Tournaments tab.

Older codes made of words still work at golfsync.io/play. On a phone, use that page for them: the dashboard box opens a number keypad.

Find your name and claim your spot

After the code you'll see Find your team. Search for your name (a first name is enough on a big field) and tap it.

  • If the email shown is yours, tap Yes, that's me. Otherwise type your email and tap I'm in. Some events make the email optional.
  • On a Golf Sync XP the email is only where your scorecard is sent. It doesn't make or link a Golf Sync account.
  • A name marked Already claimed — tap only if this is you has been joined already. Only continue if it's you: continuing puts you on that spot's scorecard. It's also how you get back in on a new phone: enter the code, tap your name, and use the same email.
  • If your spot already has an email on file, a different one you type isn't saved. Ask your organizer if it should change.

You land on your tournament page. When an event has more than one tournament, a See the whole event link takes you to the others.

When joining doesn't work

Tournament not found
The code didn't match. Codes are usually 6 digits: check it, fix it in the box on the same page and try again. Still stuck? Ask at the registration table.
Couldn't load this code
Golf Sync couldn't be reached. Check your signal and try again.
Roster isn't ready yet
Your organizer hasn't loaded the players yet. Come back in a few minutes, or ask at the registration table.
You're not on the list
Try a shorter spelling, or Show everyone and look under your team. If you're still not there, your organizer can add you at the registration table.
Someone else has your spot
If your name says Already claimed — tap only if this is you and it wasn't you, tell your organizer before you tap it.
Joining is closed
Your organizer has closed joining. If you're playing, ask them to reopen it.
The tournament is over
Its results are final and its spots can't be claimed. Once your organizer finalizes a tournament, its code stops working until they reopen it. If you played and need your scorecard, ask your organizer.
A link says you're not in this tournament yet
Tap Enter your code and join with the code your organizer gave you.

One code for the whole event

An event with two or more tournaments also has one event code. It opens a page listing every tournament, and you pick yours there. Each tournament keeps its own code too, and either one works.

On the event's page, tap Join this tournament on yours, or Open once you've joined it. Standings across the event are on that page too.

App or browser?

You can join and keep your own card in any phone browser, with no app and no account. The app adds three things: it keeps your scores when you lose signal, it gets messages your organizer pushes, and it's where a team card is kept on a scramble or alternate shot.

On the web: On a Golf Sync XP the code goes straight to the roster. On some other events a phone first shows Get the Golf Sync app to join; Continue in your browser instead is under it.

On the phone: Installed the app after scanning the sign? Open it, tap Playing today? Join with a code at the bottom of the Sign In screen, and enter the same code. No account needed.

Your account

On a Golf Sync XP, joining with a code doesn't make you a Golf Sync account: the phone or browser you joined on is signed in as your spot. To get back in on another phone, enter the code again and tap your name.

To keep a tournament in your own Golf Sync account, sign in before you join with the code, or ask your organizer to link your spot to your account.

On other events, joining with a code makes you an account from the email you give, with no password you know. To set one, use Forgot password on the sign-in page with that email.

Your tournament page

At the top, Your group shows your group, tee time, starting hole (4A or 4B when two groups start on one hole), your handicap and who you're playing with. Until the organizer makes the groups it says Your spot: registered.

Below that are the tabs: Play, Leaderboard, Field, Standings and Info. The app has the same five.

  • Play: your scorecard, or your team's on a scramble.
  • Leaderboard: the live board, contests and side games.
  • Field: the groups and who's registered.
  • Standings: the event's standings across its tournaments, when it has several.
  • Info: the prizes and the details.

Scoring on the Play tab

When scoring opens

You can join before play, but you can't post a score until your organizer opens scoring. Until then the Play tab says so.

On the web: Your card is under My Scorecard. Tap Start Round to start it, then pick each hole's score.

On the phone: Your card starts by itself. Tap − or + beside each hole.

Whose card you can enter

  • Your own, always.
  • On a team format, your teammates can enter and correct each other's scores.
  • Someone in your group (or your match-play opponent) can fill in a hole you haven't entered, but can't change a number you entered.
  • Your organizer can enter or fix anyone's card.

Your organizer can switch off scoring for teammates and group partners; a match-play opponent can still fill a blank hole. Card activity shows who entered each score on your card.

One team card on a scramble

In a scramble or alternate shot your team keeps one card, in the Golf Sync app: the browser can't keep it. Anyone on the team may enter it, so agree on the first tee who will. Everyone else just plays.

To keep the card: in the app, tap Playing today? Join with a code, enter the code and tap your name. The team's card is on the Play tab. The team's score shows on the live leaderboard as it's entered.

Fixing a mistake

Until you finalize, just change the hole. A teammate can fix it for you too.

On the web: Pick the right number, or the blank “-” to clear the hole.

On the phone: Set the hole again with − and +.

Someone in your group from another team, or your match-play opponent, can't change a number you entered, so ask them or the organizer. After you finalize, ask your organizer: they can reopen your card or correct a hole.

Finalizing your card

When you're done, finalize: Finalize Round on the website, Finalize scorecard in the app. After that your card is locked, and only your organizer can change it.

No signal

In the app, a score you enter with no signal is saved on your phone and sent when the signal comes back. The website needs a signal to save a score.

On the phone: The card says how many scores are waiting to send. A score the server refuses shows in a red box, A score was not accepted, with the hole and the reason.

The leaderboard and the TV board

The Leaderboard tab is the live board. It moves as groups post scores, with a net column when your organizer shows net, and a team board on team formats. Side games your organizer set up (Skins, Wolf, Vegas, Nassau, Bingo Bango Bongo) are there too: see the Wolf guide.

Your organizer may put the same board on a TV in the clubhouse. It's the same live board, so you don't need to do anything to be on it.

Contests: measure with a tape, then post your mark

Contests are measured with a tape. The app records each mark and ranks them; it never measures.

On the phone: A contest shows as a banner under its hole on your scorecard. Tap Post your mark, measure with the tape, enter the feet and inches, and tap Post my mark.

The contest sign on the tee has a QR code that opens the same page in your browser. It works in the browser you joined in; if you joined in the app, post from the app.

On the web: The Contests card on the Leaderboard tab shows who leads each contest and your own mark (You lead when it's yours).

If two marks tie at the top, your organizer settles it (a chip-off, a split, whatever the event's rule is) and voids the marks that didn't win. A voided mark stops counting but is kept on record.

Signing up and paying on a Golf Sync event page

Some events take sign-ups on their own Golf Sync page. Fill in the form, pay online if the organizer takes payment there, and keep your confirmation number.

  • If you signed up on an event page and didn't finish paying, your organizer can send you a payment link. Golf Sync doesn't send one by itself. Otherwise, contact the organizer.
  • If the event is full you may be offered a waitlist. If a spot opens, the offer comes by email.
  • Refunds come from the organizer.
  • The confirmation email doesn't include a join code. Your organizer gives you that for the day of play.

After the event

On the day, the LIVE banner at the top of your dashboard goes straight to your scorecard. Afterwards the Leaderboard tab keeps the final board.

On the web: Your tournaments are on My Tournaments.

On the phone: Before play they're at the top of the Tournaments tab. Afterwards, open Past events on the home screen to see each one and where you finished.

A tournament shows up there when you're signed in to the account that joined it. See Your account above.
