The Tournament Center lists thousands of golf tournaments across the US that other organizers run: charity scrambles, member-guests, amateur events. Golf Sync helps you find them; you sign up with the organizer. Browsing is free, and you don't need an account to look.

On the web: It's at golfsync.io/tournament-center/tournaments (Tournaments in the Tournament Center's top bar).

On the phone: Open the Tournaments tab and tap Find a tournament to play, or tap Tournament Center on the home screen. The screen is called Discover tournaments.

On the web: Nothing loads until you choose a place, so you never scroll a nationwide list: pick your state from the dropdown, or type a 5-digit ZIP and set the distance (10 to 100 miles); results then sort nearest first and each shows how far it is. Setting a ZIP clears the state, and picking a state clears the ZIP (you'll see a short note in that case). Each state also has its own page, such as golfsync.io/tournament-center/tournaments/virginia.

On the phone: The list opens straight away on upcoming events in your state (worked out from your internet connection, with no location prompt), or across the country if we can't place you. Tap the location bar to open Where are you playing? and choose By state or Near me / ZIP with a distance of 25, 50 or 100 miles (Use my location fills the ZIP in). Sort by distance orders the list nearest first, and it's the only time the app asks for your location.

The search box narrows the list already on screen by name, city, course or format, so "scramble", "Richmond" and "member-guest" all work. A ZIP typed there won't match anything: to search near a ZIP, change where you're looking (above).

You can also ask in plain English, such as "scrambles near Richmond in August" or "charity events in Virginia". The assistant answers with real listings you can act on, with or without an account. It only finds and explains: it can't register you, take a payment or change a listing.

On the web: The assistant is the search card at the top of the page. More filters adds a format filter and Looking for partners, which shows only events where someone is trying to fill a group. Your search words are kept in the web address, so you can bookmark or share a search; the place you picked isn't, so whoever opens the link picks a state or ZIP again (a state page keeps its state).

On the phone: Type in the search box to narrow the list, or press Search to ask the assistant instead.

On the web: On a computer, click a column header (Tournament, Date, Format, Size, Fee) to sort by it. In a narrow window the list shows as cards, with no sorting.

Listings marked Sponsored were paid for by their organizer, and Golf Sync Sponsored marks an event Golf Sync itself is promoting. Both sit at the top.

Register opens the organizer's own sign-up page. For events in the Tournament Center, you sign up and pay on the organizer's site, not with Golf Sync, so spots may be full or closed by the time you arrive. If there's no online form, the button shows the organizer's phone number, email or postal address instead.

On the web: The row's button changes when we have less to go on: Search Google when there's no link or contact, and See event page once the date has passed. Events found on Facebook say Found on Facebook. Each event also has its own Golf Sync page (the one a shared link opens), with a Search Google link for when the organizer's page has moved.

On the phone: Events found on Facebook show Find this event, which searches the web for them. Tap a card to see its format, team size and start, and every action.

Tracking keeps an event on your radar; it doesn't sign you up for anything. It needs a free account, and signed out you're asked to sign in first.

On the web: Press Track on a listing. Your tracked events are under Your activity above the list (press it to open), in Tournaments I'm Tracking. There, + Friend adds someone who is already your Golf Sync friend, so you can plan together.

On the phone: Tap the card and choose Track this tournament; the card then shows a green Tracking tick. To stop, choose Stop tracking. The list of tracked events and + Friend are on the website only.

Plenty of tournaments need a fourth. Tap Need players? Raise your hand on a listing, choose how many players you need (1 to 3), add a short note if you like, and tap Raise my hand. When a listing shows golfers looking for partners, open the list and tap I'm in next to one to open a chat with them.

When your group is full, tap Got my team — close so nobody replies to a spot that's gone. You can read the posts without an account; posting or replying needs a free one, because that's how the messages reach you.

To be reminded before an event, choose Set reminder from a listing's ⋮ menu (on the phone, tap the bell on the card, or Remind me in its actions) and pick 1, 3, 7, 14 or 30 days ahead. We'll email you on that day; it's an email, not a phone notification. Lead times longer than the time left before the event are greyed out, because that day has already gone. Each event holds one reminder, and choosing again replaces it. You'll need a free account.

The weekly email lists upcoming tournaments near you. It's free, and unsubscribing takes one click. If you're not signed in, we send a confirmation email first, so nobody can sign you up for it.

On the web: Give a ZIP and a distance (25, 50 or 100 miles, or Statewide) and press Notify me weekly.

On the phone: Tap Get these emailed to you weekly. To send an event to the people you'd play it with, tap the card and choose Share this tournament.

The catalog is built from public sources and organizer submissions, so details go stale. Two things help:

• Suggest an edit: pick the detail that's wrong (date, course, city, format, entry fee, registration link and a few more) and give the right value. A moderator checks it. No account needed.
• Report: mark an event as already booked or as a bad listing, and say why (an explanation is required). You'll need to be signed in.

On the web: Both are in each listing's ⋮ menu: Suggest edit, and Report listing (Report listing (sign in) when you're signed out), whose reasons are Already Booked and Invalid Listing.

On the phone: Tap the card and choose Suggest an edit or Report a problem; the phone's reasons are Already full / booked and Wrong info or not a real event.
