On the web: Open the menu and choose Scan a Scorecard, then Scan a fresh round (or Scan → next to a recent round). From a round's page, Enter Scorecard (View / Edit Scorecard once a score is saved) opens the same card. Click Choose photo(s) and pick one photo, or two if the front nine and back nine are on different sides. After the first scan the button becomes Rescan.

On the phone: Open the round and tap Open Scorecard, then Scan card. It says Re-scan card once the card has been saved.

The scanner reads the pars, the yardages and the strokes. A new scan is laid over your card: it fills par, yardage and score where it read them, and keeps the stats you tracked and any holes the photo didn't show.

On the phone: Before a scan lands on holes you've already saved, the app asks Scan over this card?

Try it without an account: golfsync.io/try-scorecard scans a card and shows it. To keep it, use Save with a free account under Save this round: once you sign up or sign in, the scan is saved as a new round and you land on its scorecard.

When the photo has a row for each player:

On the web: Choose who each row belongs to (Assign to a player on the round, or Skip it), then save. Rows you give to other players go straight onto their cards; yours fills your card so you can check it.

On the phone: Tap your row when the app asks Which row is yours? Only your strokes are filled in.

On a scramble or alternate shot the scan reads the one team score instead.

On the web: Click a cell and type. Par can be 3 to 6 and a score 1 to 20; anything else gets a red outline, and when you leave the cell it goes back to the last good number. After a scan, par and yardage are locked so you don't change them by accident: click Par + yardage locked — tap to unlock to edit them.

On the phone: Tap − or + beside a hole to set your score; the first tap starts at par, and a score three or more over par asks you to confirm. Tap the par box to type the par (3 to 6).

Got one wrong? Change it: your card saves the new number.

The View switch has two settings. Standard shows the hole, the par and your score. Advanced adds a row under each hole for greens in regulation, putts, penalties and fairway hit, with totals at the bottom. Both apps save all four.

On the web: Advanced also marks each score against par and rings any cell the scanner wasn't sure about.

On the phone: A circle marks a birdie and a square a bogey in both views (two circles for an eagle or better, two squares for a double bogey or worse), and verify marks any hole the scanner wasn't sure about.

Open Net scoring (optional) (Net scoring in the app) and enter the course rating, the slope and your handicap index. Golf Sync works out your course handicap (index × slope ÷ 113, rounded) and shows your net score once 9 holes are scored. The website and the app use the same numbers.

Quick enter (Quick Enter in the app) shows one hole at a time in big type, starting at the first hole you haven't scored. Set the score with − or +, then Next →; ← Prev goes back.

On the web: Enter and the arrow keys move between holes too.

On the phone: Tap Done to close it.

Your card saves itself a few seconds after each change: watch for Saving… and then the time it saved. If a save fails you'll see Auto-save failed. Tap Save to retry. There's a Save button too.

On the web: The website warns you if you leave with changes that haven't saved.

On the phone: The app shows Unsaved changes until the save lands.

Not yet: Your own round's card can't save with no signal: if a save fails, tap Save again when you're back in coverage. (An event scorecard in the app does keep scores with no signal.)

Clear scorecard on the website, or Reset scorecard in the app's ••• menu, wipes the holes but keeps the round. It clears only your card, or your team's shared card on a scramble or alternate shot, and the confirmation says whose.

When you book a round you pick a format:

• Individual: everyone keeps their own card.
• Scramble: everyone plays from the team's best shot, and the team shares one card.
• Best Ball: everyone keeps their own card, and the team counts the lowest score on each hole.
• Alternate Shot: partners take turns hitting one ball and share one card.
• Match Play: head to head, hole by hole. You enter your card and your opponent enters theirs.

On a shared card anyone on the team can update it, and the last save wins. A banner above the card says whether it's your own or shared. Individual rounds can also be scored as Stroke play, Stableford, Modified Stableford or Chicago.

On the web: Once play starts the round's page shows a live leaderboard. Click View fullscreen leaderboard for a bigger view. Players who haven't posted show Yet to post a score.

On the phone: Tap Live Leaderboard on the round. Your own row is marked. If you booked the round you can fix anyone's card from here and Add a guest player; the website shows other players' cards read-only.

It updates every few seconds (less often while nothing changes, and not while the page is in the background). Ties show as T2, T3 and so on.

Save your card, then tap Share at the bottom of it (on the website there are Facebook and WhatsApp buttons too). The link opens a read-only page with your name, the course, the date, your total and how it compares to par, and your hole-by-hole card.

Anyone with the link can see it without an account. It always shows your latest saved card, and you get the same link each time you share.

Every round you've scored yourself is in My Scorecards (in the website's menu, and on the app's Account screen). Each row shows the course, the date, your score and how it compares to par; open one to change it.

On the web: The top of the page shows your average over your last 5 and last 10 rounds.

Rounds you played at an event live with the event instead: on My Tournaments on the website, and under Past events in the app.

On the web: On a round you booked, Games & Wagers on the round's page runs Skins, Nassau and Closest to Pin; the person who booked the round adds and settles them.
