Team programs

For coaches and their players

For coaches

Your roster

Add players by name; no email or personal details needed. Each time you add players, tick the box confirming each one is at least 13 and that you have any parental permission your school or club requires. Players never sign up themselves, so this is the only point where anyone is asked, and the Add buttons stay off until it's ticked.

On the web: My Team › Manage roster. Paste a list, one player per line, such as "Jordan Chen, 2027, VARSITY", or paste columns from a spreadsheet: up to 100 players at a time. Squad is Varsity or JV. Grad year and squad can only be added in a paste.

On the phone: You can add one player at a time, by name.

To take someone off the roster, press Remove (× on the phone). They move to Inactive, and their rounds stay in the team's history.

Getting players in

Each player joins with an 8-character code you make for them: My Team › Manage roster › Join code next to their name (the same on the phone). A code works once and lasts 48 hours, and making a new code for a player cancels their old one. Read it out at practice, or press Copy and text it to the player. The codes leave out 0, O, 1, I and L, so there's nothing to mistype.

Players don't need a Golf Sync account, and we don't ask them for personal details.

Setting up a round

On the web: On your team page press + Set up a round. Pick the course (or type its name if it isn't listed; players then set the pars as they play), the tees, the date, the type (Practice, Qualifying or Match), 9 or 18 holes, and who's playing. Each player then finds the round waiting on their phone. Rounds are set up on the web only.

Late players and dropouts. While a round is scheduled or being played, its page has + Add players: pick from your active roster, and each one gets a scorecard straight away. Each player's row has Remove. Holes they already posted stay in their rounds; an empty scorecard is removed. A finished round can't be changed; use Log a round to type up a card after the fact.

On the phone: Before a round starts you can set its groups and starting holes, and see who said they're going.

The live board and Finish round

While the team plays, the round's page shows who has started, how many holes each player has posted and where they stand, and refreshes every 30 seconds. It's on your phone too, because you won't have a laptop out on the course.

When the team is done, press Finish round on the round's page (FINISH ROUND on the phone). That closes any card a player left open, and only closed cards count in your stats.

What counts in your stats

Scoring average, greens in regulation, fairways and putts, per player and across the team. Filter by round type, so a qualifying round reads separately from practice. Rounds shorter than 6 holes don't count toward the scoring average, but their putts, greens and fairways do. Where a stat wasn't tracked you see that plainly rather than a zero.

Notes

On the web: Open a player to keep private notes about them. Only you can see these: players never do.

Practice, goals and attendance

On the web: Your team page has Performance, Rounds, Practice and Goals. Give a goal or a drill to one player or the whole team, and see the practice players log.

Players answer whether they're coming to each practice on the calendar, with a reason when they can't make it.

Parents and guardians

On the phone: Open a player and, under Parents & guardians, tap Add and enter the parent's email. It can't be done on the web.

Golf Sync emails the parent, who signs in to a Golf Sync account on the phone and taps Team stakeholders. They see that player's stats and schedule, read-only: never your notes and never other players. A parent can't add themselves.

The team view

It's off to start with, so each player sees only their own numbers. To switch it on, go to My Team › Manage roster › Team view for players and press Turn on (or Turn off). With it on, each player's My Game shows a row of dots, one per teammate's scoring average, with no names and their own dot highlighted. On teams where at least four players have an average it adds a line such as "You're right in the mix". It never shows a rank.

For players

Joining with your code

Your coach gives you an 8-character code. Open the Golf Sync app and, on the sign-in screen, tap Joining a school team? Enter your code. (Already signed in to a Golf Sync account? Tap Join your team on your home screen.) Type or paste the code: it sends itself once all eight characters are in, or tap JOIN. Use it within two days; if it has stopped working, ask your coach for a new one.

After that your phone stays on your team. If you land on the sign-in screen again, tap Open My Game ("On a school team?"), or My Game on your home screen. You don't need a new code.

Scoring a round

Rounds your coach set up appear on My Game with the course and tees already set. Tap START ROUND and enter your score hole by hole. If you leave and come back, tap CONTINUE: the round opens on your next unscored hole with every hole you saved.

Before hole 1, choose how much to record: Score only, Standard (the common stats) or Everything (adds your first-putt distance). It's the same round either way, so record what you have time for.

No signal is fine. Each hole, and your final Save, is kept on your phone and sends itself when you're back in coverage, even if you close the app: it sends the next time you open it. The round says when it's been sent.

What your teammates see

Nothing that identifies you. If your coach turns on the team view, you see how the team's scoring averages are spread out and where you sit, with no names on anyone else's number and never a rank. Otherwise you see only your own numbers.

Logging practice and answering your coach

On My Game, + PRACTICE logs a practice session and + ROUND a round you played on your own. Goals and drills from your coach are under From your coach, with +1 to count one done. On the practice calendar, tap I'm going, or Can't make it and say why.
