Payments Terms

Applies when you connect a Stripe account to collect payments through Golf Sync.

⚠ Starter draft — pending legal review

This version was drafted 2026-05-16 as a foundation. Final terms will be posted before the payments feature opens to the public. Watch this page or ask ryanrpick@golfsync.io for status.

Effective date: [TBD — pending legal review] · Last updated: 2026-05-16

The short version

  • You connect your own Stripe account. The money goes to you, not us.
  • We take a 1% platform fee on every transaction we process for you.
  • Stripe's own processing fees (typically 2.9% + $0.30 per card charge) are passed to the player at checkout as a separate line — so you bank the full amount.
  • If a player pays you in cash, Venmo, or check outside the app, you can still mark them paid manually. We don't take a cut on those.
  • If a charge is disputed or refunded, the chargeback fee comes out of your Stripe balance. We don't backstop disputes.
  • You're responsible for your own taxes. Stripe will send you a 1099-K if you cross the IRS threshold.

1. What these terms cover

These Payments Terms apply when you (an “Organizer” — a Golf Sync league owner, captain, or hosted-tournament administrator) connect a Stripe account to Golf Sync to collect payments from registrants, players, or sponsors (“Participants”). They're an addendum to the main Golf Sync Terms of Service — if there's a conflict between the two for payments-related issues, these terms control.

“Golf Sync” in these terms means Golf Sync LLC, a single-member limited liability company. We operate the Golf Sync platform but do not hold your funds — see §2 below for how money actually moves.

By clicking “Connect Stripe” or completing the Stripe onboarding flow inside Golf Sync, you accept both these terms and Stripe's own Connected Account Agreement.

2. How money moves

We use Stripe's Connect infrastructure. When a Participant pays through Golf Sync:

  1. The Participant's payment goes directly to your Stripe account.
  2. Stripe deducts its standard processing fee (e.g. 2.9% + $0.30 for a US card).
  3. Golf Sync deducts its 1% platform fee (see §3).
  4. The remainder lands in your Stripe balance and pays out to your bank account on Stripe's standard payout schedule (typically 2 business days for US accounts).

We never hold your money. Golf Sync is not a money transmitter or money services business. Your funds settle into a Stripe-managed account in your name. If you want to read the legal frame: Golf Sync is a “marketplace facilitator of payment processing” relying on Stripe's licensure.

3. Golf Sync platform fee

Golf Sync collects a 1% platform fee on every transaction processed through your connected Stripe account via Golf Sync. The fee is taken from the gross transaction amount as part of the Stripe Connect settlement — you'll see it itemized as “Golf Sync platform fee” in your Stripe Express dashboard under each transaction's breakdown.

The platform fee does not apply to:

  • Manual mark-paid actions (cash, Venmo, check, or any payment that happened outside the app)
  • Refunds — the platform fee stays with Golf Sync when you issue a refund (consistent with standard marketplace practice)
  • Comp'd or waived registrations

We may revise the platform fee with at least 30 days' notice via email and an in-product banner. Existing scheduled payments at the time of a fee change are honored at the old rate.

4. Stripe processing fees pass to Participants

By default, the player checkout line includes a separate “processing fee” line covering Stripe's fee, so you bank the full registration / dues / sponsorship amount. The Participant sees something like:

Dues: $50.00
Processing fee: $1.84 (covers card processing — passed through, not retained)
─────────────────────────
Total: $51.84

This is the standard surcharge model used by event ticketing platforms and is compliant with major US card network rules and state surcharge laws as of the effective date. If you operate primarily in a state that prohibits surcharging (currently a small number; check Stripe's surcharge guidance for current state-by-state status), you're responsible for ensuring your usage complies with applicable law.

5. Refunds, disputes, and chargebacks

You can issue refunds from the Golf Sync admin or directly from your Stripe dashboard. Refunding a charge returns the full amount to the Participant from your balance.

If a Participant disputes a charge (chargeback), Stripe assesses a $15 dispute fee. That fee comes out of your Stripe balance — Golf Sync does not pay it. You can contest disputes through your Stripe Express dashboard; Golf Sync provides supporting metadata (registration timestamp, IP address, confirmation number) on request.

6. Taxes and 1099-K

You're responsible for paying taxes on the money you collect through Golf Sync. We don't withhold or remit any taxes on your behalf.

Stripe will issue you a 1099-K if your gross transaction volume crosses the IRS threshold for the year ($5,000 in 2026, subject to change). The 1099-K appears in your Stripe Express dashboard at year-end.

7. Offline payments

You can mark a registration paid even when the money flowed outside the app — cash at the course, a Venmo transfer between you and the player, a mailed check, an in-kind exchange. These “offline mark-paid” actions create a record in Golf Sync of who paid and how, but no money flows through Stripe and Golf Sync does not collect a platform fee on them.

You're responsible for actually collecting and tracking offline funds. Golf Sync has no visibility into payments that didn't go through Stripe.

8. Stripe disabling or restricting your account

Stripe can suspend, restrict, or terminate your connected account at any time for KYC / compliance reasons. If that happens, Golf Sync surfaces the status in your Payments dashboard and automatically falls back to the offline mark-paid path for new registrations on your tournaments. Existing paid registrations are unaffected (money already settled).

Resolving the underlying issue is between you and Stripe — Golf Sync has no ability to override their decisions.

9. Disconnecting

You can disconnect your Stripe account from Golf Sync at any time from the Payments section of your league settings. Disconnecting does NOT cancel pending payouts, refund recent charges, or remove records of past transactions — everything that already settled stays settled.

Your Stripe account continues to exist after disconnecting; you can manage it directly through Stripe.

10. Payments happen on the web

Payment collection through Golf Sync — both setting up payments as an Organizer and paying as a Participant — happens through golfsync.io in your web browser. If you tap a payment-related action in the Golf Sync iOS or Android app (for example, “Set up payments” or “Pay dues”), the app opens your phone's browser to complete the action. This includes browsers on iPhone, iPad, and Android tablets — everything works on every device.

You can pay with a card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, ACH transfer, or whatever your browser supports through Stripe. These are real-world peer-to-peer payments between you and your league organizer (Apple Guideline 3.1.5(a) “Goods and Services Outside of the App” and the equivalent Google Play policy), so the standard 30% mobile-app-store fee does not apply — you pay only the dues amount plus Stripe's processing fee (covered by the surcharge described in §4).

Golf Sync's League Pro subscription is billed separately through Apple In-App Purchase on iOS and Google Play Billing on Android, in accordance with each platform's rules. That is unrelated to payments you make to a league organizer for dues, registrations, or sponsorships.

11. Changes to these terms

We'll notify you by email and via an in-product banner at least 30 days before any material change to these terms takes effect. Continued use of the payment-collection feature after the effective date means you accept the new terms.
